Brain Surgery

While brain surgery can be a scary thing, it’s more comfortable to have the procedure done close to home. Dr. Don Soloniuk, M.D. is one of Lewiston’s only Neurosurgeons. He performs all of his surgeries at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center as a convenience to his patients.

Brain surgery can treat many conditions, such as:

  • Brain tumors
  • Bleeding or blood clots from injuries
  • Weaknesses in blood vessels in the brain
  • Abnormal blood vessels in the brain
  • Damage to tissues covering the brain
  • Infections in the brain
  • Severe nerve or facial pain
  • Skull fractures
  • Pressure in the brain after an injury or stroke
  • Some forms of seizure disorders
  • Certain brain diseases that may be helped with an implanted electronic device

Back & Spine Surgery

Back pain can often be unbearable. In certain cases, surgery can significantly help back pain sufferers. For many, it can completely abolish the pain; for others, it can greatly reduce the level of pain suffered daily. When other forms of treatment have failed, it may be time to schedule an appointment with Dr. Don Soloniuk, M.D.

Common Symptoms of Back Surgery Patients:

  • Pressure on spinal nerves or the spinal cord
  • Fractured areas of the spine
  • Spinal deformities such as scoliosis
  • Sacroiliac Joint Content

Peripheral Nerve Injury

Your peripheral nerves are the ones outside your brain and spinal cord. They are responsible for relaying messages to and from your brain. When a peripheral nerve injury occurs, these messages can be disrupted.

There are many types of nerve disorders. Some are the result of other diseases, such as diabetes. Symptoms often start gradually, and then get worse. They include:

  • Numbness
  • Pain
  • Burning or tingling
  • Muscle weakness
  • Sensitivity to touch

Treatment tries to treat any underlying problem, reduce the amount of pain and to control symptoms.
